Priming Reliance

Monday, October 30, 2006

Reliance's topside was somewhat scraped and scratched. The striping in particular was destroyed. Rather than attempting to restore the gelcoat through extensive patching, color matching, and weeks of compounding and buffing it was repainted. The topside was sanded, and though it isn't always the proper methods the hideous vinyl sheer stripe was also sanded off.

Before Sanding

Sanding (which also revealed a thinner blue stripe in the gelcoat underneath the vinyl)

Once sanded, the boat was coated with two coats of AwlGrip 545 Epoxy based primer (the best topside primer in my experience).
